Tuesday night Dinner @ Lake Chalet – Restaurant Review

So, a friend of ours is still in town from his Labor Day weekend trip to SF. And since the Bridge is up and running again; I invited him and his girlfriend over to Oakland’s hippest newly rennovated restaurant; Lake Chalet.

The scene was buzzing! The bar was full, both dining areas were packed; and the dock was full of posh and upscale professionals — mostly mid thirties with sunglasses and afterwork attire. The decor was lovely as well; but the crowd definitely stole the show.

The Lake Chalet is known for their Taco Tuesdays on the Dock; but we decided to do a double date dinner in the main dining room overlooking the Dock and the Lake. We were ooh’ing and ahh’ing over how everything was nice, and how this was the new spot to be seen and hang out. But that’s all we ooh’ed and aah’ed over….

We were not impressed with the food at all. Mind you; it is a seafood restaurant and we ordered the flat iron steak with garlic parmesan fries. (I know, I know — the fries sold me). But the steak was SALTY! Mind you, there wasnt an ounce of salt on my fries….

My out of town guest ordered a salad with chicken — his verdict? Average. His girlfriend ordered the veggie potpie — her verdict? Average.  We shared the banana bread pudding and pineapple upside down cake for dessert. Our group verdict? ‘Ehhh……

I definitely will be back …but will definitely be drinking 3 glasses of water to wash all the salt out of my system tonight. And more than likely; this isnt a place I would want to go on a date. … maybe later when the crowd dies down (and the food gets better)… But for now; I’d stick with being seen on the Dock with my girls for happy hour…..

Here’s the deal: If you want to be seen and show off your new work outfit and sunglasses — while the weather is still warm and the sunsets are still long; head to Lake Chalet’s Dock for the cheap tacos, margueritas, & beers. Anything more than that and you might end up with boring food and a salt coma…

Overall. . . .It’s definitely a place for the In-Crowd to be seen!
